APC2009.03- New York Pizzeria, Lowville, NY (business/residential case- permission to post has been granted)
Earlier this summer T.N.P.S. was given permission to investigate the third floor of the building that is home to the New York Pizzeria. After reviewing 900+ photographs, 9 hours of recordings, and 1 & 1/2 hours of video footage, as well as referencing EMF and temperature readings, no evidence of paranormal activity was found. One room, which may have been the room mentioned in the faulty internet reports, did have elevated EMF readings. These readings were caused by a fuse box and associated wiring. These elevated readings may have been the source of the 'weird' feelings some people reported. Studies have shown that prolonged exposure to high EMF can cause feelings of apprehension, nervousness, nausea and, in severe instances, hallucinations. The owner of the business and building has granted permission to T.N.P.S. to both post and discuss this case in an effort to stop the rumors that have been circulated about the location.

APC2009.08- The Lowville Free Library, Lowville, NY (permission to post has been granted)
T.N.P.S. investigated the Lowville Free Library on August 4th, 2009. Reports of activity included voices being heard, (including the librarian hearing her name called when no one else was in the library,) books being turned around or pushed off shelves, and motion-activated hand dryers in the bathrooms coming on by themselves. During our investigation, we had several odd personal experiences. Something kicked or tapped a metal chair when no investigator was within ten feet of it. One investigator was touched on the shoulder. Three people all heard a disembodied voice whisper, "hey." We took over 1100 pictures and analyzed approximately 12 hours of recordings. Quite a few EVPs, or electronic voice phenomena, were obtained. Many of these EVPs were coherent answers to questions. Judging from the EVPs, it is the conclusion of T.N.P.S. that there is at least one male and one female entity in the library. The fact that we often got coherent answers to our questions leads us to the conclusion that at least one of the entities is an "intelligent" haunt, rather than a "residual" one. It is possible that at least one of these spirits has its origin in the house that once stood on the spot where the library is currently located. We appreciate the Library's willingness to allow an investigation and the publication of our results.

APC2009.08-2- The Lowville Free Library Seminar Mini-Investigations, Lowville, NY (permission to post has been granted)
T.N.P.S. conducted a paranormal investigation seminar at the Lowville Free Library on October 16th and 17th, 2009. The seminar consisted of a lecture/discussion of our paranormal investigation methods, a historical walk around Lowville featuring some locations in which paranormal incidents have been reported, and our "culminating activity": a mini-investigation of an active location- the library itself. Participants each night were divided into three groups, and each group was led by an investigator. Each group was given the opportunity to be a part of EVP sessions, in which questions are asked in an attempt to get any presence to interact with investigators. Group members were also given a chance to use equipment such as EMF detectors, K-II meters, and an infrared night-vision Handycam. Each group was supplied with a digital voice recorder. A stationary voice recorder was also left on the table in the basement children's room. Groups spent about 20 minutes on each of the three floors of the library before trading places and going to another floor. In this way, every group had the opportunity to investigate every floor of the library. Several groups had personal experiences during these mini-investigations. One group heard a loud tap on a chair in the basement board room when no one was within five feet of the chair. A couple of groups also heard the metal chairs in the children's room pinging as if they were being tapped or moved. Two groups got taps after they asked for a sign. One group on Friday received a moan in response to a request for a sign. Groups also experienced anomalous K-II spikes in both the basement and the first floor of the library. There was no photographic evidence captured during either night's mini-investigation. One of the anomalous K-II spikes was captured on the Handycam. Several EVPs, or electronic voice phenomena, were also captured. These EVPs serve to reinforce the results obtained from our initial investigation on August 4th, 2009. As with our first investigation, evidence of at least one male and one female entity were obtained. These EVPs suggest, as before, both an "intelligent" and a "residual" haunt. In some cases, questions posed by investigators were coherently answered. In others, the EVPs appear to have no real connection to what was occurring at that point in the library. A couple of these EVPs are especially noteworthy. One claim from our initial interview with the librarian in August was that she often heard her name called when she was alone in the library. During Friday night's investigation, we were lucky enough to be able to capture this phenomenon, faintly, on one of our recorders. The librarian actually heard this during the investigation, and the recorder that was with her group picked it up. On Saturday night, an investigator was reading the names under the portraits on the main floor of the library. After she read one of the names, a Class A EVP clearly says the word "bummer!" Research revealed that this word was in use as far back as 1871. During this time period, the word was a noun used to describe a person who was a shiftless, often homeless alcoholic. We speculate that the word was being used as an insult directed toward the gentleman in the portrait whose name was spoken by the investigator. One final interesting event worth mentioning is that when the librarian entered the library on the morning of Saturday the 17th, a small pile of children's books was found stacked in the basement hallway on the floor. This small stack of books was not there when investigators and the librarian left the library and turned off the lights on Friday night. This event matches claims that were made in initial interviews in August, that books would be moved to odd locations where they did not belong during times when it could be established that absolutely no one was in the library. Once again, as in August, this paranormal activity does not present itself as a threat to the patrons or the employees of the library. Not all groups that attended the mini-investigations experienced activity, but all of the participants appeared to enjoy themselves immensely. We greatly appreciate the support and trust of the Library Board of Directors and the library employees. This support was a vital part of what made our fundraiser such a success.
